Criticism of the Ubuntu Business Model

Adam W works for Mandriva regarding marketing and also does a bit of coding/packaging for them. If you've ever posted on a forum regarding a problem with Mandriva then likely you'll have interacted with Adam. He's certainly been very helpful to me in the past.

On his personal blog he's posted a criticism of the business model that Ubuntu/Canonical operates. A criticism of how Ubuntu was parachuted into the Linux ecosystem and basically disturbed the market that all the distros with a commercial base operate in.

And he's got a point. Canonical is operating a business model that assumes bottomless pockets for it's founder Mark Shuttleworth. Question is, what happens should Shuttleworth's finances ever be withheld from Canonical?

Interesting. Will be good to see what debates this stirs up!
